day 8: lombok

day 8: december 30
yet another fantastic day!  ogank, our guide from the gili islands offered to take us to the waterfalls.  he met us at the hotel around 10am and off we went.  he said that it takes him a little less than an hour to get there which meant it was going to take us about one and a half hours.  i think we did it in about one hour and forty five minutes.  it was a little scary through the big intersections but we all survived and it was awesome.  now i really want to buy a little motorbike to scoot around town in.
greatest bike gang ever.

ogank

stopping for a photo which none of us looked at because we got distracted.
we stopped to take photos of the green all around us.  it was so luscious!

we stopped for gas near our destination and by then it was beginning to sprinkle a bit.  the roads were pretty empty and paved so it was okay.  as we got closer to the waterfalls it started to rain a bit more and the roads became less paved and then it became a game of dodging the potholes.  before i knew it i was facing the steepest partially paved road i had ever seen.  i gave it my best but got stuck in the dirt part and had to get off.  since i was in front it kind of ruined it for everyone else and then nick and serena tried to forge ahead (if you stop you're doomed) and hit me as i was falling/getting off my bike.  luckily it was just a bruise and one of the guys helped push mine and annie's bikes up.  scary.  but at least we made it and it had stopped raining!

beautiful isn't it!

couldn't be happier

i need to move to lombok.

what lovely bunches of bananas!

after the waterfalls i was quite cold and during the drive i thought i would catch my death!  it was a downpour and windy and all i had on was that outfit that i've been wearing in all the pictures from the last couple days (and probably the next couple days too).  i was shivering like crazy but once we hit senggigi the air was warm and pleasant and i was dry and warm by the time we got back to see this sunset.
