Bali --> Day 1: travel + rest

ONE LAST ANNIE & DIANE HURRAH!
Bali was incredible!  We started off the first day around 4:15am after very little sleep.  It was a little stressful because the taxi that was supposed to arrive at 4:30am did not show up and was apparently lost somewhere.  I tried to call the company but had a difficult time communicating what was going on and what needed to happen.  Eventually he arrived and hurried us to the airport.  Palembang to Jakarta was a breeze and just in case you were wondering, Jakarta airport is still absolutely hideous.  We slept most of the flight from Jakarta to Bali and arrived with beautiful blue skies and warm breezy weather.  From there we took a taxi about 45 minutes to Ubud.

Our little place at Nick's Homestay.

One of the many pets at Nick's Homestay.
 After we checked in, we wandered around Jalan Hanoman and went to Kafe where we dined on amazingly fresh and healthy food.  I felt like I was in Portland.  Ubud is a very laid back, hippy dippy, yoga loving, back packing kind of place.  I'm pretty sure the entire staff was stoned because it took them forever to bring food out, take our order, bring us menus.  Then again, waiting around in restaurants is part of the Indonesian experience wherever you go.  It was really weird sitting in a restaurant surrounded by other foreigners.  I literally felt like I was in America.  Everyone spoke English.  It was crazy.  The food was fantastic.

Roosters getting their afternoon massage.  Cock fights are common in Bali and the roosters are nicknamed,
"second wife" because they are treated so well.  Well, until they are put in the ring and fought to death.

My favorite pet at our home stay.  So cute!
