sea games

my humble abode.  our house is on the right, neil's is on the left. romeo
is the stray dog trying to wander in the front door. he follows us around everywhere,
everyday, all the time.  we don't let him in but we feed him sometimes.

view of the main street.  most streets here don't look like this.

my first bus experience.  really loud indian pop music, jam
packed, the second your foot touches the inside of the bus, the
driver hits the gas.  having reflexes like a cat comes in handy.
it was 3000 rupiah per ride which is about thirty cents. not bad.

the bus had really interesting interior decor.
chains, fake flowers, a lot of velvet.

this guy in the stripes is who you pay when you get on the bus.  he hangs halfway
out the bus and yells out where the bus is going and if you want to get on, the bus
slows down and this guy claps and yells at you to hurry and get it.  this is also the view
from the ampera bridge as we were crossing it on our way to jakabaring, where the
games were held.  the bus was really fun but really sweaty and crowded.

the sea games stadium.  beautiful!

we spent half an hour trying to get in.  it was literally packed like sardines.
i finally weaseled my way to the front and was halfway really excited
and halfway terrified that the railing was going to break and i was
going to hit concrete then have thousands of indonesians fall on top of me.

the lovely synchronized swimmers.  this was after the event was over.  i'm not
sure what country this was but they didn't place and i imagine their coach
was punishing them by making them relive every wrong move they made.

warm ups before the events.

happy and hilarious thailand supporters

indonesia (lane two) was in the lead and we were all very
excited but then thailand snuck in and beat him by half a second.

masses and masses of people
